ChatGPT prepares its revolution, a big index on GPT-5 unveiled

OpenAI has just filed GPT-5 with the US Patent and Trademark Office. An approach that is not insignificant for the future of ChatGPT even if the GPT-4 model still has good days ahead.

GPT-5

As competition grows, OpenAI continues to refine ChatGPT. Recently, you can set up the chatbot with context elements and use the chat agent on its official Android app. As a reminder, the free version of the tool is powered by GPT-3.5, the more powerful model GPT-4 being reserved for paid users. The good news is that Sam Altman’s company is already looking ahead to the festivities.

On July 18, OpenAI registered the GPT-5 trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The document available online, however, does not contain strong announcements about the features of the future language model. And for good reason, the objective of the maneuver is essentially to have the first place on the GPT-5 brand. Such deposits had already been made for GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 in addition to their deployment.

GPT-5 is not coming soon

In the description, OpenAI evokes the general foundations of the future system. There is nothing crunchy to eat since the company used the same text for previous ChatGPT models. Some of the functions mentioned are:

  • Text creation
  • Natural language generation
  • Processing, understanding and analysis of human natural language
  • Convert audio data to text
  • Translation
  • Speech recognition
  • Predictive analysis
  • Implementation of artificial neural networks

OpenAI a déposé une nouvelle demande de marque pour :

« GPT-5 »

Le dépôt a été effectué auprès de l’USPTO le 18 juillet.

Obviously, the deposit does not necessarily mean that the company will give birth to it. It is above all a security to keep ahead of the competition. Last April, the head of OpenAI had also denied the construction of GPT-5. In June, he reiterated, “We still have a lot of work to do before we launch this model”. Among other things, Altman would seek to resolve security issues before forming a new model.

The study according to which ChatGPT is less qualitative and the fierce competition of other chatbots could however push OpenAI to launch the formation of its future model. According to developer Siqi Chen, GPT-5 could be significantly closer to strong artificial intelligence. Before releasing the new iteration, OpenAI would have planned to launch the intermediate GPT-4.5 model “in September or October 2023”.
