iPhone 15: Apple may delay release of some models to avoid shortage

Some models of the iPhone 15 may be late this year. Apple could actually delay their launch by a few weeks to avoid a shortage at the launch of the new generation of iPhone.

The iPhone 15 is expected this fall, but all models may not come out at the same time. Apple will introduce the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max in September, but they may not all be available at the same time. We are not talking about a generalized delay on the entire range of the iPhone 15 as an analyst recently announced, but about a delay for the two premium models, namely the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

According to sources close to the production line of the iPhone 15 who confided in The Information, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max could be in shortage right from their launch. And for good reason, the new high-end iPhone screens would face production problems.

New screens with finer borders of iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max would have production problems

This year, LG Display is responsible for the production of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max screens. Close-to-production sources say, however, that Foxconn “faces challenges” that “could lead to a shortage of copies at the September launch” due to screens manufactured by LG Display. Apparently, two people have direct knowledge of this problem.

The problem is more precisely the new production methods used to manufacture even thinner screens that will be reserved for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max this year. Indeed, both models will have a larger screen this year, while keeping the same dimensions for the chassis. This production process is called Low Injection Pressure Overmolding or LIPO. The problems would have arisen during the reliability tests conducted by Foxconn on the screens manufactured by LG Display for pre-production models.

LG Display would be fine-tuning the production method of the screens in order to pass the reliability tests. Although the issues will be resolved soon, this delay may result in a shortage of iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max at launch. Instead of selling out-of-stock iPhones, Apple could delay their launch in October. Thus, only the iPhone 15 and 15 Max would be released in September. Moreover, the Pro model should accommodate an exclusive dark blue color.
