YouTube: upgraded 1080p will soon be available to Premium customers online. Subscribers should have an even better experience.
YouTube users will soon see an additional option in the resolution selection menu on the web if they pay for the premium subscription of the video hosting platform. According to an article in The Verge, the 1080p option with “enhanced sampling” is now available on desktop worldwide. It is presented just above the standard 1080p. Clicking on it will prompt the user to subscribe to YouTube Premium if not already.
YouTube: improved 1080p reaches Premium users on the web
A few months ago, YouTube began testing the 1080p Premium, which it dubbed a "1080p version that provides more information per pixel, which provides a better viewing experience." The higher the bitrate – which measures the amount of video data transferred over a period of time – the better the image quality the user has without having to increase the resolution. Yes, 4K is available for some videos, but that means passing a much larger file, which not all connections can necessarily handle. Additionally, a lot more data is being sent as a percentage.
Subscribers should have an even better experience.
The service also rolled out improved 1080p on iOS a few months ago, but now more users will be able to access it. That being said, YouTube recently increased its premium subscription rates from $12 to $14 per month, or $120 to $140 per year. The subscription makes it possible to remove ads for a better experience and offers some other features, including improved 1080p, of course, as well as offline viewing and background playback.
