The range of the iPhone 14 sells particularly well among other smartphones signed Apple. Indeed, it almost beats the record held by the iPhone 7 in terms of shares of iPhones sold in the United States. Here’s what could explain this performance.
After studying why Android users flock to the iPhone, the latest CIRP report looks this time at the adoption of the iPhone. According to the latest data from this market research firm in the United States, the iPhone 14 range has achieved a much higher share of iPhone sales than its predecessors.
In a note entitled “Current Year iPhone Dominate, But Why?” , the CIRP explains that the iPhone 14 follows the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in this category. They set the record in 2017 with 81% of iPhone sales in the United States. In subsequent years, the share of sales of iPhone current-gen models hovered around 70% of sales.
According to data from June 2023, the iPhone 14 line-up reached a peak of 79% of iPhone sales in the United States, a difference of just 2% of the iPhone 7 record, despite more competition from iPhone 13 and 12. This is also the highest percentage that the iPhone 14 has reached since its launch in September 2022, compared to the other models.
Why is the iPhone 14 selling more than the others?
First, users keep their iPhone longer and longer, usually more than two years. Consumers may therefore be more likely to buy the latest smartphone when they upgrade, even if there is no major contribution between the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 13 or 12, because they know that support will be maintained over time.
Secondly, CIRP explains that one factor to be taken into account is that US operators have made payment agreements spread over 24 to 36 months on iPhones. The difference in the monthly cost between the iPhone 14 and older models no longer seems to be as large, prompting consumers to choose the latest device. Yet the price difference is real…
We hate to see how the iPhone 15 will perform in this category. For now, Apple’s next smartphone looks very promising, with its revolutionary technology that will significantly improve battery life or even its bet on artificial intelligence with a new dedicated App Store.
